On the new 49X, all exterior lights are brighter, longer lasting LED lights with dual stage intelligent LED Headlights.
The headlights have available heating elements that can melt 3mm of ice in 10 minutes at -40 degrees Celsius. The heating elements also have the capability to dissipate condensation in warmer conditions. In classic Western Star fashion, all bright work is stainless steel or aluminium with solid steel and aluminum bumper options. These bumpers are the standard vocational, severe-duty and logger bumper with optional center tow pins rated up to 80K and 140K on logger bumper. The new hood on the 49X is made of a high strength durable and lightweight resin which is flexible to bend and high impact resistant to reduce cracking.
The 49X hood is 100lbs lighter than the 4900 and has a new sloped design to increase airflow and driver visibility. A durable hood calls for durable mounting, that’s why Western Star produced the ISO Tech hood suspension system. The ISO system is frame mounted and designed to isolate the hood from chassis for vibration protection, therefore reducing cracking and other damage.
With all of these electronic and mechanical developments, the 49X still has a front end that will turn heads.
