Engine options are very important in a vocational truck, in the new 49X, there are many options to suit any vocation.
Western Star can spec both Detroit and Cummins in their chassis. The DD16 is available at ratings from 500HP – 1850lb/ft of torque up to 600HP – 2050lb/ft of torque. This engine is a workhorse and has been proven in some of the toughest conditions in the world. The DD15 is also available, ranging from 455HP- 1550 lb/ft to 505HP – 1850 lb/ft. The DD15 is an extremely efficient engine and is well suited for those looking for fuel economy. In 2022, the Detroit DD13 will be available and is available from 350HP – 1350 lb/ft to 505HP – 1850 lb/ft. It is a great smaller vocational engine that is 300lbs lighter than the DD15 or 16 and can still get a 505-1850 rating.
Regarding Cummins, The X15 is available from 400HP-1650 lb/ft to 605HP 2050 lb/ft. The legendary power of the Cummins is properly demonstrated in the Cummins X15 and is also available in the efficiency series for improved fuel economy. The Cummins X12 is available ranging from 350HP-1350 lb/ft to 500HP 1700 lb/ft. This engine is the newest from Cummins and is the lightest engine available in the 49X.
With this many engine options, the 49X can perform at a high standard in any vocation.
